These are ideas for a new group dedicated to studying and learning about World History from the Prehistoric to the 20th century, from North and South America, to Europe, Asia, India China, East Asia and Africa.

  • Looking at ancient civilisations around the Mediterranean like the Greeks, Carthage, Egypt, Rome, Hittites, from the Assyrians, Babylonians, Sumerians, Indus valley civilization to the ancient Chinese.
  • Covering the Early, Middle and Late Middle Ages in Britain, Europe and the rest of the world, the Huns and Mongols, the Islamic empires in Spain, the Middle East, Asia and India.
  • Exploring the age of trade and conquest and colonialism.
  • Understanding he Renaissance and the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution.
  • Looking at Emperors, King's and Queens, Kingdoms and Empires, wars and cultures, republics, and the lives of merchants, travellers, philosophers, peasants, thinkers, artists, and writers.
  • There's so much to learn and discover.

We'll agree what to study and I'll go over a particular historical period or topic and those who want can research a particular historical person e. g. King or thinker, or topic Stonehenge, Roman Republic, etc and share their research over 10 or 15 minutes with the group at each session.

As a new group we'll have to see how things go, as regards numbers and how best to run the group.

Anyway I thought I'd put it out there and see if there's any interest and go from there. I'll be at the Enrolment Morning, and before then you can send me a message to let me know you're interested by clicking my name above.
