The Ukulele Band is a group for people who already have experience of playing the ukulele. It does not teach playing for beginners.
Our emphasis is on playing a variety of music including rock, pop, folk, jazz etc. Members are encouraged to suggest new material to help to grow the portfolio.
The emphasis is on playing and singing for fun. Any size of ukulele is acceptable in the group and any kind of voice, although singing is not at all compulsory if you are not comfortable with it.
You will need a music stand and access to the internet to obtain the existing portfolio of songs. Given the wide range of songs already in the portfolio some members choose to download songs onto tablets or similar, others prefer to print. The choice is yours.
Unfortunately, due to the severe flooding. St. Mary's have closed the parish hall. As a result, I can only book the hall on a tentative basis and there is no guarantee that it will be available for our usual start of term. I have been promised an update as soon as insurance and clean up and repairs have been completed.
As a temporary measure I have booked St Benedict's Church. Parking is not ideal - see below.
Venue parking: street parking near to St Benedict's Church is difficult, although there are double-yellows which blue badge holders can make use of. As with St Mary's Hall, parking in Morrison's car park is possible for up to 3 hours. Park close to the main entrance to the car park and walk through to Benedict Street via a footpath and Fairfield Gardens (5 mins). Alternatively, there is closer paid parking (post code BA6 9QQ) with a pedestrian tunnel through to Benedict Street next to the tattoo parlour. Parking at Proper Job is for at most 1½ hours, so is not long enough.

March 2026.
Wendy's last Ukulele Band session as GL after 10 years.
