This is a loop just over 4 miles long. It involves a steady ascent, steep in two places, but on good ground, up to Draycott Sleights Nature Reserve, and a contouring lane (the West Mendip Way) with great views, then descent for which I recommend walking poles if you have them, to protect your knees. We will then follow some of the Strawberry Line back to the pub. I would very much like to divert a short distance to visit the Parish Church, to see a unique stained glass window celebrating the fact that no-one from the village was killed in the first world war (hence a 'thankful village') - a fitting place to visit on Remembrance Day, and the church itself is interesting anyway.
Gather from 10-10.15 and leave 10.30 prompt. The pub serves food all day so we won't be rushing to get to the end - we can take it easy and take rests.
[Next fortnight we will walk with the Wells U3a on the Levels]
