Chelynch loop - Poacher's Pocket Wednesday 2nd September

We will meet at the Poacher's Pocket in Chelynch BA4 4PY at 10.15 for a 10.30 prompt start.

This is 7 kilometers, including one straight and steady climb up a section of the Fosse Way (the route of a Roman Road - and boundary of Roman Britain- so can't be that steep). Otherwise easy going. We will visit the ancient - and possibly mystical - St Aldhelm's Well (the source of the River Sheppey), and his nearby church in Doulting, and pass by the (now overgrown) stone quarry from which much of Wells Cathedral was built (allegedly). So plenty of stops and views. A local historian would be most helpful.

The owner of the pub knows we're coming, and has asked that we park not in the first car park, but in another one down a lane leading off the first one. This so we don't block other customers. I'll be there to direct.

This is our last free walk. After this it's £1 per walk.
